Daley International, Ltd., with subsidiaries across the continent and interests around the world, is well known for its high-quality brand-name and private-label institutional cleaning chemicals.

Daley International, Ltd., is one of the largest manufacturers of private-label and brand name institutional and industrial cleaning products in the United States. The corporation is headquartered in Chicago and spans the continent with seven manufacturing plants (two of which are now in Missouri).

The Daley Bulk Warehouse in St. Louis inventories raw materials and packaging for distribution via company-owned trucks to its ten manufacturing plants.

In 1980 Daley International acquired two cleaning-chemical manufacturing companies: Candy & Company, and Peck's Products Company, founded respectively in Chicago in 1891 and St. Louis in 1918. Thus the corporation's roots can be traced more than 110 years to the genesis of Candy & Company, whose original product line consisted of waxes and shellacs for confection and paper trades, wire-coating compounds, and battery seal.

Today Daley International still manufactures base emulsions for sale to the secondary manufacturing market, as well as an extensive line of institutional cleaning and building maintenance chemicals. Daley International is one of the largest producers of floor finishes, waxes, and ancillary floor care products. The early manufacturing of Peck's Products Company was simple soap bases and other janitorial-type cleaners. Today Daley International has national distribution of institutional warewash, laundry, and sanitizers, and conveyor lubricants to industries that process and package food and beverages.

Daley International broadened its lines with subsidiaries such as the St. Louis family business of James Varley & Sons, acquired in the late 1980s. Shown is a portrait of its founder, entrepreneur James Varley, in the company's reception area.

Through vigorous acquisition of companies that strengthen and complement Daley's original lines, the corporation now produces brand-name and private-label products. For example, James Varley & Sons, Inc. (now JVS Solutions), a family business founded in St. Louis in 1921, became a subsidiary of the Daley organization in the late 1980's. Varley institutional cleaners and floor care products are sold internationally through distributors.

The Daley corporation's auspicious customer base includes Anheuser Busch, Walmart of Mexico, K-Mart, A&P Supermarkets, Shoprite, General Motors, Hilton Hotels, Mirage Casinos & Resorts, Prairie Farms Dairy, Inc., Kohl's, Cole's Australia, Sysco Food Service, and many other well-known retailers.

Much of the corporation's growth can be attributed to dedicated employees as well as to sound management and a philosophy of "independent/interdependency," in which plants operate autonomously but share resources. Manufacturing sites are strategically located throughout the United States (in New York, Florida, Illinois, Texas, Missouri, and Colorado) to speed shipment, reduce freight, and provide personal service to distributors within geographic regions. Ample raw materials are stocked at these sites to meet anticipated production schedules. To ensure uninterrupted production each plant has access to additional raw materials from the corporate bulk-storage facility in St. Louis, via company-owned and operated trucks. Internal resource centers support the manufacturing effort. A central purchasing and bulk warehousing group in St. Louis negotiates prices and stocks bulk raw materials that meet stringent quality specifications.
